JBL

JBL, an American company based in Northridge, California, founded in 1946 by James Bullough Lansing, specializing in the manufacture of high-end loudspeakers.

The JBL brand is named after the initials of its founder, James Bullough Lansing.

The company was created after James B. Lansing left Altec Lansing where he held the position of Vice President. It then moved into the design and manufacture of loudspeaker components and equipment for cinemas and the general public. After the death of James B. Lansing in 1949, his associate Bill Thomas develops the notoriety of the mark which gradually becomes a reference in the matter of domestic speakers.

In 1969, JBL was sold to Jervis, which later became Harman International. The brand is maintained and distinguished by its products which are used in particular in recording studios, concert halls and outdoor festivals. They also served to develop the THX audio standard.

The company is now organized into two independent divisions, JBL Consumer for the general public and JBL Professional for the professional market.
